Chest pain: when to wait and when to rush to a doctor

Chest pain has many causes, from acidity and muscle strain to anxiety and heart disease.

Call for help immediately if chest pain is crushing or squeezing, spreads to the arm, jaw or back, or comes with sweating, breathlessness or nausea. These can be signs of a heart attack.

Pain that is sharp, very brief, or changes with movement or breathing is more often muscular or related to acidity โ€” but if you are unsure, it is always safer to get checked.

If you have risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of heart disease, lower your threshold to seek care. A teleconsultation can help you decide your next step quickly.
